The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-west has described the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, as a fake Awoists, saying; “it is an insult for a figure-head chairman of a party of identity forgers like the ACN, who himself sacked thousands of workers when he was Osun State Governor to be sermonising about Awoism.”

The PDP zonal Publicity Secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade, said it was laughable that Akande, who never joined the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s political family until 1978 would be calling anyone a fake Awoist.

The PDP said; “It is on record that Chief Bisi Akande was not a member of the Action Group (AG), the original Awolowo party during the First Republic. Instead of AG, he was in Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe’s National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroun (NCNC).

“It is also on record that Akande opposed the progressive Awolowo’s government in the defunct Western Region. Even when NCNC and AG formed United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA), he didn’t join. He only joined Awolowo’s party, Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in 1978. When the late Orangun of Ila, Oba William Adetona Ayeni was leading the AG, Akande and others were leading the NCNC onslaught against Awolowo in Ila Orangun.

“How then can the same Bisi Akande be calling respected Yoruba leaders like Reuben Fashoranti, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Olu Falae fake Awoists when he himself had worked against Awolowo and his interests in the past, and he is a figure-head leader of a party that has not hidden its hatred for the Awolowo family?”

While also describing Akande’s claim that ACN governors in the South-west states were behaving like Awolowo as preposterous, the PDP said; “It is obvious that Baba Akande’s reasoning had been infected by the ACN virus of falsehood. If not, he won’t be referring to governors that are rendering people homeless by demolishing their houses without providing alternative settlements as Awoists.
